A Permeable Playground

Porous Pave XLP is more than just a surface; it's a comprehensive system that in corporates safety, functionality and durability. From the ground up, our XLP Playground System starts with a 4" permeable, shock-absorbant base layer made from recycled rubber.

Wear mats are placed in high wear areas. Then the entire surface is covered with a 1" layer of XLS rubber and finished off with our proprietary soft binder. The Porous Pave XLP Playground System has a Critical Fall Rating of 8'. Unlike most other playground surfaces, XLP is extremely permeable, allowing water to flow right through the product and base layer with ease.

Design Tip

When using one of Porous Pave's all rubber blends, it is strongly recommended to mix colors. This adds dimension, results in a more natural look and better enables the surface to compliment its surroundings.

Bringing Porosity Into Play

The installation process for Porous Pave XLP is a multi-step process that is unique from other Porous Pave surfaces.
1.
A 4" thick, permeable, shock-absorbing base layer is installed in areas that require a CFH rating of up to 8'. Base layer is then allowed to cure.
2.
Porous Pave wear mats are installed. Wear mats are designed to take excessive wear and tear. Wear mats are also constructed from recycled rubber, but are pressed in a tighter mold to make them very durable for areas such as under slides, swings, merry-go-rounds and other high wear areas.
3.
The top layer of XLS is installed at 1" thick and allowed to fully cure.
4.
Once the XLS is fully cured, a binder top coat is applied evenly throughout the entire surface. The top coat is a thinned binder that is either rolled or sprayed on with an airless sprayer. This top coat provides added durability to the entire area. Allow to cure for 24 hours. Play area can then be opened for use.
