Walk Along the Charles River with Porous Pave

Office workers at the Wellesley Office Park in Wellesley, Mass. can get right out into nature and take in views of the Charles River as they stroll along the new half-mile long Wellesley Office Park Walking Path.

To comply with local wetlands protection requirements for the ecologically sensitive area, a pervious material that allows rainwater to drain through its surface to minimize runoff was required. The path was installed with 20,000 square feet of Porous Pave XL.

“The path is only 50-75 feet from the river, and sections are in a flood zone. In addition to permeability, walking surface comfort and safety, strength to hold up against periodic flooding, and toughness to for snow removal in winter were essential attributes.” — Horace Aikman, Senior Associate, CRJA-IBI Group, the landscape architecture firm in Boston that designed the path
